Fitch

Fitch fought his potential abductors and by doing so he saved the life of his brother Abercrombie.
Unfortunately Fitch could not recover from the injuries he received from these cruel and heartless people and he succumbed. Fitch lost his battle for life on March 5, 2007 at 11:56pm at the University of Georgia.
Rest in Peace Dear Brave Fitch... For you we will continue to fight!!!

My Adoption Story

Gayle's Sam

Pure Thoughts was going to an auction in North Carolina and, Gayle, one of the supporters, called Jen and said, my birthday is on Halloween and, instead of gifts, I have decided to save a horse that is going to slaughter. She also said, Jen, you have to promise me that you will not let me bring this horse home. Jen said, I promise. Tracy out bid a killer buyer and brought Sam to the Pure Thoughts facility in Honeapath, SC. Sam was later transported to the Florida facility at the end of October and Gayle paid a visit to see the horse that she saved. The plan to find a good home was working until, Sam walked across a pasture and waited to say “Goodbye”. Goodbye never occurred and Sam is leaving Pure Thoughts on February 23, 2008 to go home with Gayle. Gayle is sure that the decision to keep Sam is not a “Gayle” decision because Gayle is much more rational. Sam was bred and raised for competition in cutting events. He went to the auction because he was not big enough, mature enough or fast enough. He came to Pure Thoughts as a very quiet, uncomplicated horse that did not know he had the right to ask for anything. Living at Pure Thoughts has allowed Sam to feel safe enough to let someone know when he wants something. Here is Sam having a temper tantrum because he could not stay with his buddy, Felix. He is stomping his feet, whinnying and swishing his tail. Gayle loves the gift that has been given to Sam by Pure Thoughts and she loves the birthday gift that she gave to herself. Jen has never even apologized for not keeping her promise.

Itty Bit and his Girl

Here is Itty Bit who was rescued from the Ebensburg auction in Pennsylvania last Spring. The in late October he was adopted as a Christmas gift for a little girl.. Well it looks like it was Itty Bits present too. He sure seems to love his girl. Mom said that she is the only one that can catch him in the pasture, he allows her to do anything. Here are some pictures of the two of them. Sure reminds us what this is all about.

BELMONT PICKED HIS HUMAN

As much as we try and get to know the horses every once in a while they still surprise us.. Sometimes a light shines through them and we just say... Wow.. where did that come from.

We received a phone call from some very nice people. They told us their situation, the husband is in a wheelchair and they had recently lost their rescue Belgian, they were devastated and hoping to find another one. The Belgian had really brought the husband back to life. We told them about Sophie because we felt that Sophie would be the calmest around the wheelchair. When they came out guess who sniffed the wheel chair and took to it like he had been around one all his life... BELMONT. We explained to the people that Belmont likes a very structured life, does not like change and picks and chooses his humans ... well Belmont picked his human... Here is an email from the people and some pictures.

Hi Jennifer and Brad,

Well it has been one whole week since the Big Boy arrived. His name here is Monty and it seems to really suit him. He is settling in well. The first few days were anxious for everyone, especially Monty. He is now in with two other geldings, one a spritley old boy and the other an annoying youngster. Monty loves the youngster. All three of them eat off the same hay pile and seem to be happy with the arrangement. We are keeping to a strict routine for him as much as possible, and we have found that if you change one thing in his day, his anxiety level rises. However, Adrian has found the way to calm him with carrotts and apples! It is still early days but we have fallen in love with this big baby already. Next week, we are going to take him in the round pen and work with his feet, amongst other things, before we get our farrier to attempt a trim!! Anyway, just wanted to let you know how he is doing. Hope all is going well for you. I have had several people ask me if I have any horses for sale, but I am no good at selling them, just gathering the waifs and strays! I have referred them onto yourselves though, so I hope that is ok. If we can ever help with any of the work you do, we would be happy to do so. These horses need a voice, and you are doing an amazing job on their behalf. Hopefully I have attatched a coupe of pics of Monty. Merry Christmas and happiness for the new year.

Sunny & Milo

I wanted to give you this update on Sunny... She totally trusts me and Bobby now, and she is just the sweetest horse ever! We brought home a special little "someone" to be a companion for my OTTB Rally, since he has been wanting a friend and the mini's did not work out (they attacked him - the little brats!). We tried Sunny with Rally, but she could not tolerate him "pestering" her, so she would kick him a LOT and gave him several deep cuts on his front legs... Rally has the disadvantage of not being socialized during his first 3 years of life, and we had only found one young colt at a boarding stable that he could stay with that wouldn't kick and bite him all the time. Rally doesn't know how to properly defend himself from kicks. The special "someone" is a mini-donkey named Milo! He is only 6 months old and he has just been weaned from his mother. He is such a cute, sweet, precious little fellow! We brought Milo home on Saturday, and tried to slowly introduce Rally & Milo - Unfortunately, Rally intimidated little Milo with his high energy and intensity and Milo got chased all around the pasture at high speed! I was very disappointed that it was not going to work out with Rally (at least while Milo is still a baby), but I had fallen in love with this little guy and didn't want him to go back home, SO...we tried him with Sunny - And oh my goodness, it was love at first sight! Sunny immediately started taking care of Milo and protecting him like she was his own mother, and Milo absolutely loves being taken care of like that! We know Sunny has had foals, and we also know she was separated from her foal before that awful Sugarcreek auction in May of last year (she still had dried milk on her teats).

Let them be born without fear, let them live a life of peace,
and please, when it is time, let them die as they lived;
fearless, painless and peaceful.

Pure Thoughts is an all volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of horses, yearlings and foals that were bound for the foreign owned slaughterhouses in our country. These horses would have been brutally tortured and slaughtered so that they could be served as a delicacy in foreign countries. In addition we also rescue horses from starvation, abuse and neglect, any horse in need. We haved saved over 1200 innocent equines and as long as these cruel acts continues we will continue to fight for the horses. We cannot do this alone...we need your help!! Please help us and others save these beautiful animals
and please remember in your thoughts the ones we were unable to reach.

Time has run out for these horses. They are at the slaughterhouse awaiting processing...
Healthy, kind and once loved horses. How did they end up here?

SAVING THE LIFE OF A HORSE MAY NOT CHANGE THE WORLD
BUT IT WILL CHANGE THAT HORSE'S WORLD

I want to help the horses

Alex is...HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

I am sure all of you remember the little boy we got from the Hernando County Animal shelter...

Well yesterday Alex went to his forever home. He is with a family and has his very own kids. It has taken us a long time to place Alex because we were looking for the perfect home for him, we wanted him to have children in his life. Our knowledge in the Paso world is very limited and we had some people come out to see him and wanted to adopt him but it was not a situation we felt would be right or good for him.. The adoption fee for Alex was not an issue to us, we know there are many Paso's out there and many that have ended up and the shelters so to us, the importance was a good family home and we would waive any adoption fee.

So we put our heads together and remembered our dear friend Linda Renna who has her own Paso's and is very involved in the Paso clubs and would know of a good home for this boy. So Linda came out and road Alex, he did great as we knew he would... and so did JW. Linda found the perfect home for Alex. They already had one Paso and two kids so they were looking for another Paso.

Yesterday she came to pick up Alex. I was down at Calder Race track and had completely forgotten to tell Brad about Alex and hauling him. Alex will haul in a trailer just fine ... AS LONG AS HE IS NOT TIED.. I do not know what was in his past but if you tie Alex in a trailer he acts as if you are about to kill him. So we switched to our trailer and loaded him up untied with no problem.

Here are pictures of Alex's new home and family. In fact Alex has a girlfriend who looks like a mirror image of himself. There was a little apprehension because apparently she does not like other horses, well she liked Alex immediately and he liked her. They started nuzzling and grooming each other as soon as they met as if they were old friends.

They have many animals as pets so Alex will never be bored..
Here is a little goat they just got from an auction... who gave birth shortly after they got her. She had her baby the day before Alex arrived.

They have one goat that they have to have a special lock on the gate because he knows how to unlatch the gate...

A few turkeys roaming around...

And Alex's kids... Now Alex has his very own boys as well as his new girl who they instantly liked each other.

We want to thank all of you for helping with Alex, if it were not for all of you we could not have helped this little boy... and seeing Alex in his new home, beginning his new life... well that is the greatest gift we could be blessed with.
