Fitch "Forever Young" June 16. 2006 - March 5, 2007
Fitch fought his potential abductors and by doing so he saved the life of his brother Abercrombie. Unfortunately Fitch could not recover from the injuries he received from these cruel and heartless people and he succumbed.
Fitch lost his battle for life on March 5, 2007 at 11:56pm at the University of Georgia. Rest in Peace Dear Brave Fitch... For you we will continue to fight!!!

In rescue there are very sad stories but there are also very happy ones too..it is only fair that we share the happy and the sad with one another.. this is a good one..
NAPLES CREW UPDATE
Last year we took in some babies and a pregnant pony from Naples that were in a herd with 60 other horses. The horses were not being wormed or fed enough, there was no grass and some of the babies were eaten by panthers. We were able to take 5 out of the herd and there were other people who stepped in to take some of the others in need.
As you remember Rembrandt the little black one was adopted by a vet tech and he is doing great. Holly, the pregnant pony who we thought was very old but she was not as old as we thought, just in rough condition. She was adopted by a previous adopter named Stephanie for her son and Holly gave birth to a healthy baby. Dunny who is named Scout is still with us. It took about 6 months just to clear the infection and fungus on his legs.
Thunder and Rainy who are now called Secala and Thunder are doing great. Secala had just been weaned the day we took him and it was some of the babies his age that were eaten by the Panthers. Secala is now about a year and 7 month old. He has been gelded and has been adopted although he has not left yet. He has been adopted by a lovely woman who lives here and in Colorado. Secala will be traveling to her farm in Colorado and he will grow up with her niece who is about 4 years old. This way they can have time to bond together before either are ready to ride. What a happy life for this boy. Here they are when they came in.. and of course a worm picture. We were very nervous when we saw such big worms in such little bodies.

Here are some pictures of Secala and Linda today.. she spoils him already.

Thunder went to our friend name Robbie's place for lots of love and training. Although we could love him we do not have someone small enough to be able to safely train him and Robbie has many kids there that love him. He is doing fantastic!!

IT IS SUMMERTIME
So in the State of Florida the summer is not something we all look forward to. I tell everyone up north.. summer is our winter. We may not have snow but we have heavy duty rain, outrageous heat and humidity, afternoon monsoons and of course the constant fear of HURRICANES...
But summertime means something else.. to the horses too.. KIDS ARE OFF OF SCHOOL.. and the horses love that. It means more young ones to play with them and love on them.
The kids here are great. This is not a summer camp that their parents have enrolled them in nor is it a babysitting service. These kids want to be here and have earned the right to be here by proving to use that they understand the mission of the rescue, compassion for the animals and respect for one another. We feel it is a priviledge and one we will allow to all kids of all abilities as long as they earn the priviliedge and follow the rules. They are all very respectful kids. They work together well. Here everyone is equal, there are not any clicks.. no one is more popular than the other. They are all uniques individuals that learn they get what they give.. kindness and respect. The kids are evaluated for the abilities and that is what we base their volunteering on. The kids that do not have as much knowledge, are taught and as they advance so do their functions and responsibilities. We never want a child not to have the equine experience just because they have not had a horse in their life. Brad Gaver, one of the Founders of Pure Thoughts has his Master Degree in Education and has developed many educational equine programs, this has enabled us to allow kids of all capability to be able to help with the horses.
Every child, at one point or another should have an equine in their life, but not all parents can afford this luxury. It changes their outlook on life, teaches them responsibility and helps them to understand the importance of horse welfare as well as compassion and empathy to all animals. Not to mention what it does for their self confidence.. Once they are able to handle a horse and realize that they are helping this horse begin his or her new life... the happiness and confidence just shows in their face...
Yes although the afternoons are brutal.. the mornings are HEAVEN for the horses and as soon as they see the kids come in they all sing.. SUMMERTIME SUMMERTINE.. WE LOVE SUMMERTIME.
