Fitch "Forever Young" June 16. 2006 - March 5, 2007
Fitch fought his potential abductors and by doing so he saved the life of his brother Abercrombie. Unfortunately Fitch could not recover from the injuries he received from these cruel and heartless people and he succumbed.
Fitch lost his battle for life on March 5, 2007 at 11:56pm at the University of Georgia. Rest in Peace Dear Brave Fitch... For you we will continue to fight!!!
Florida Thoroughbred Rehab & Placement Since 2002 Pure Thoughts Inc Horse & Foal rescue has been rescuing horses including ex-racehorses. In March of 2009 the Florida Thoroughbred Rehab & Placement division was put into place. FTRP is dedicating to starting a new life for Thoroughbreds after their racing career is over.
Since March of 2009 we have taken in over 100 Thoroughbreds who have finished their racing career.
We believe that there is life after racing that is not just in a pasture. Our Thoroughbreds have become show horses for children and adults, working in therapy programs for abused children, working horses for the police department, part of handicapped riding program, sport horses, pets/trails horses, etc etc.
Since March of 2009, we have rehabilitated, retrained and placed 40 Thoroughbreds into their new lives, career and endeavours. All horses go with a lifetime contract that allows for them to always come back to FTRP if need be. This helps to keep them out of harms way.
We have over 60 Thoroughbreds in various stages of rehabilitation, retraining or available for adoption. Please consider making one of these gorgeous horse.. your next horse. Call Brad at 561-951-2108 for more information about the horses.

Sweetsouthernmadam came in with hoof issues about 9 months ago and they have been completely healed so she is ready for retraining. Momma and Baby will be in retraining together.. This is one big baby... She is absolutely stunning and a HUGE derrier!!
Siphon City Look at me Now
Siphon City was in rehabilitation for several months wearing a special made boot. Because of such care look at him now.
PYRENA
6 YEAR OLD MARE...OUTSTANDING!!
Red Hot Candy - Cleared for Retraining
RED HOT CANDY - He is a 3 year old gelding who had surgery on December 8th. He has been cleared for retraining and will have no limitations on his abilities. This boy is absolutely STUNNING but he is green and just starting in his retraining. Although everyone loves the grays at this point this boy could only be adopted to someone who is a good rider and has a trainer or has the ability to train. I know everyone gets excited about the grays... but this boy has a ways to go in his training. He is not for a beginner.
Gibber will need surgery and months of rehabilitation.
He has the chip in his Left knee, which is not a new chip as his knee was called a "chronic knee" with remodeling of the bone - which is where the problem of this whole thing is. Remodeling is the bruised unhealthy bone caused by grinding away by the chip. This does not happen short term- this is "chronic" as she says. These were her exact words.
This is not a simple chip- the remodeled bone- that is evident above the chip is the issue. That all has to be cleaned out because usually it is so damaged that it flakes out anyway. When you see there DVD you will notice the grayer looking bone. This has to be cleaned up- and then you see what is left- and whether he remains sound or not. A new chip does not have the remodeling and those are really easy.
She also stated that for any possible healthy result- he should have surgery within the next 2 weeks as there is no arthritis in here yet and he could hopefully not damage this further. Also advised that because of the degree of remodeling that no-one would know if we were going to get a positive result of a perfectly sound horse until the surgeons went in and saw the actual degree of bone damage behind that chip.

Barbi Moline Wins 2010 Dogwood Dominion Award
A longtime horse rescuer – who in the past year alone has saved 105 Thoroughbreds and initiated ongoing programs at Calder and Gulfstream to help fund a much-needed horse rescue organization in a key racing state – is this year’s winner of the Dogwood Dominion Award, it has been announced by Dogwood President W. Cothran “Cot” Campbell.
Barbi Molineis the Intake Director for Florida Thoroughbred Rehab and Placement, a division of Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue. Not only has Barbi saved over a hundred Thoroughbreds from the threat of slaughter, but she spearheaded a plan to fund this rescue organization by working with the FHBPA and the local jockey colony.
As the 18th recipient of the Dogwood Dominion Award, which annually honors one of racing’s “unsung heroes,” Barbi will receive $5,000 and a bronze statue of Dominion at a luncheon at the Reading Rooms in Saratoga Springs, New York, on July 28. Barbi was selected from over 30 nominations by judges Anne Campbell, Jay Hovdey and Todd Pletcher.
“In a time when the plight of unwanted horses has reached all corners of our industry and can no longer be ignored, individuals such as Barbi Moline have stepped up to the plate – working tirelessly and with a knack for ingenuity – to save Thoroughbreds from slaughter while giving them a chance at a second career,” said Campbell. “Working in unison with the local FHBPA, Barbi negotiated a plan which allowed the rescue organization to receive one-third of one-percent of the purse money of the first, second and third-place finishers at Calder and Gulfstream. The jockeys at these tracks also agreed to give $1 per mount to help fund the program.”
Barbi saved her first Thoroughbred 16 years ago, but quickly accomplished much more after she began volunteering with Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue in 2005. While that organization rescues all breeds, it was evident that a special division would be needed for all the Thoroughbreds who were being saved from the slaughter pens. With no program in place at the Florida race tracks to offer homes and rehab for ex-racehorses, many of these horses were simply being sent to auction and in most cases to an ignoble death. The scenario changed in 2009, when the Florida Thoroughbred Rehab and Placement division was born. With volunteers working at both Calder and Gulfstream, and many fostering farms located near Miami, horsemen now had an option for their horses. Barbi was named the intake director and immediately set about finding funding for the fledgling program. She secured grants from the Thoroughbred Charities of America and Blue Horse Charities, but the program’s biggest breakthrough came when the horsemen and jockeys agreed to donate money from purses and from riders’ fees. The program has also been supported by track management at Calder and Gulfstream.
The Dogwood Dominion Award was inspired by the multiple stakes winner Dominion, who was campaigned by Dogwood in the 1970s and went on to become five-time Champion Sire in England. It was created upon his death in 1993 to recognize the unsung heroes in the racing industry. Former winners are H.W. “Salty” Roberts, Howard “Gelo” Hall, Peggy Sprinkles, Grace Belcuore, Nick Caras, Donald “Peanut Butter” Brown, Danny Perlsweig, Katherine Todd Smith, Julian “Buck” Wheat, Jim Greene and Shirley Edwards, Neftali “Junior” Gutierrez, Pam Berg, Jo Anne Normile, Pete Lizarzaburu, Phyllis Shetron, Vincent Garibaldi, and Mary Lee-Butte.
Past honorees, friends and family of the 2010 winner, and various racing enthusiasts and industry leaders will attend the Dogwood sponsored luncheon at Saratoga.

Question: What will we do with the unwanted horses? Answer: Help teach and encourage children to read!
The question has been asked by many representatives in Washington D.C. who are pro-slaughter; to the point of redundancy, when really the answer is not that difficult and has been a plausible answer. The solution is out there, always has been and everyday the validation for the solution shows itself.
Chocolate is a small brown pony that was saved from going to slaughter through the Triumph Project. A few months ago he was adopted by Shelly through Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue adoption program and now he is not only a very loved pony by Shelly and her daughter but he is also part of The Black Stallion Literacy Program.
Along with Chocolate, other horses from Pure Thoughts are involved in the Black Stallion Literacy Program. After each book completed the children have the opportunity to interact with the characters of the books, the horses. This week when we went to Pierce Hammock Elementary it was Little Black and Big Red who the children met. During the time with the horses it was great to hear Shelly and the other members of the program discuss the books with the children, insuring that the children comprehended what they had read. It was only until after they had their discussion did the children call out for Big Red and Little Black.. .and out the horses came trotting.
In the end, time and time again, it has been shown that there are places for these horses. Whether they are show horses, pets, trail horse, therapeutic horses, educational enhancement, etc… the bottom line is UNWANTED does not mean DISPOSABLE. At one point in everyones life I am sure we have all been unwanted by something or someone, it does not mean we are go slaughter; we move on and find someone or somewhere that we belong.
For anyone that is interested in the Black Stallion Literacy program in your school or organization you may contact Shelly at sheveyl@aol.com.
Please contact your Congressman and Senator and let them know you want an end to horse slaughter. Ask him or her to support H.R. 503.
Welcome to Pure Thoughts Inc. Horse & Foal Rescue!
Pure Thoughts Inc. is an all volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of horses, yearlings and foals that were bound for slaughter, victims of starvation, neglect and abuse. To date, Pure Thoughts Inc has helped over 1400 horses.
Horse Welfare is the primary concern at Pure Thoughts. Our mission is based on the realization that we, as a nation, have domesticated these horses and must take responsibility for their lives. To use a horse only as long as it fulfills our needs, then subject it to physical and/or mental abuse and possibly subsequent death, whether on the slaughterhouse floor, abandoned in a field no longer being cared for, or left in a stall no longer being provided its’ physical needs is a violation of that horse’s right.
ADOPTING...If you are interesting is adoption please call 561-951-2108. You can make an appointment with Brad to see the horses, they will love seeing you as much as you love seeing them.
