Fitch

Fitch fought his potential abductors and by doing so he saved the life of his brother Abercrombie.
Unfortunately Fitch could not recover from the injuries he received from these cruel and heartless people and he succumbed. Fitch lost his battle for life on March 5, 2007 at 11:56pm at the University of Georgia.
Rest in Peace Dear Brave Fitch... For you we will continue to fight!!!

Problem Solver: Hay for Rescued Horses

By Dianne Derby

When we first told you about the plight of a horse rescue organization struggling to get hay many of you called to see how you could help. One viewer was so concerned about "Pure Thoughts Horse and Foal Rescue" she wrote to us for help! In this 7 On Your Side Problem Solver we get them a much-needed donation and let you know how you can help.

"It's been hard trying to find hay," said Tracy Steiger with Pure Thoughts Horse & Foal Rescue of South Carolina.

This year's drought has Steiger struggling to get her 30 horses fed. Her organization rescues horses headed for slaughter houses and rehabilitates those that have been neglected.

"With us trying to rehab the horses it's really hard trying to rehab them with not the best quality of hay or having the amount of hay they should," said Steiger.

Steiger is used to letting the horses graze on hay all day. Now she's had to cut their feedings down to 3 times a day.

"We've been trying to get hay shipped in from everywhere," said Steiger. "With the cost of shipping and bringing the hay into our farm it's outrageous. Our feed bill has almost tripled due to the fact that we have to supplement because of the hay shortage."

In the meantime people have reached out to help...

"There was a farmer in Honea Path that donated his field to us but we would have to cut it and we don't have the machinery and stuff to cut it," she said.

So when horse lover Kim Bishop heard about their problem she turned to 7 On Your Side.

"When I read their plight I said I know who to call so I called you and you helped them," said Bishop.

We started calling feed stores and found Carolina Fresh Farms.

"Hay is running in short supply," said Joe Burdette with Carolina Fresh Farms in Anderson. "Nobody's got any. We're running about 90% short (compared) to this time last year."

On Saturday Carolina Fresh Farms gave Steiger nearly $150 worth of hay...something that will help her horses get through several more days.

"This right here is better than anything we could have received," Steiger said. "It's gonna help us out a lot."

If you would like to help Pure Thoughts we're on your side with what you need to know.  On Saturday, September 29th they have a benefit called "Horsinaround".
