Fitch "Forever Young" June 16. 2006 - March 5, 2007
Fitch fought his potential abductors and by doing so he saved the life of his brother Abercrombie. Unfortunately Fitch could not recover from the injuries he received from these cruel and heartless people and he succumbed.
Fitch lost his battle for life on March 5, 2007 at 11:56pm at the University of Georgia. Rest in Peace Dear Brave Fitch... For you we will continue to fight!!!

Florida Thoroughbred Rehab & Placement
Since 2002 Pure Thoughts Inc Horse & Foal rescue has been rescuing horses including ex-racehorses. In March of 2009 the Florida Thoroughbred Rehab & Placement division was put into place. FTRP is dedicating to starting a new life for Thoroughbreds after their racing career is over.
Since March of 2009 we have taken in over 100 Thoroughbreds who have finished their racing career.
We believe that there is life after racing that is not just in a pasture. Our Thoroughbreds have become show horses for children and adults, working in therapy programs for abused children, working horses for the police department, part of handicapped riding program, sport horses, pets/trails horses, etc etc.
Since March of 2009, we have rehabilitated, retrained and placed 40 Thoroughbreds into their new lives, career and endeavours. All horses go with a lifetime contract that allows for them to always come back to FTRP if need be. This helps to keep them out of harms way.
We have over 60 Thoroughbreds in various stages of rehabilitation, retraining or available for adoption. Please consider making one of these gorgeous horse.. your next horse. Call Brad at 561-951-2108 for more information about the horses.

BE AN ANGEL FOR A HORSE We have two Thoroughbreds who can no longer race that need to have surgery
so that they may go on to live a long happy life.

Hakamiah is a two year old colt, he is out of Came Home. He arrived in Florida to race at Gulfstream Race Track and was injured. He was brought to FTRP (Florida Thoroughbred Rehab & Placement) with a complete, non-displaced lateral condylar fracture of MCIII. Due to the horse’s young age and good prognosis for future soundness with surgical repair. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Madison in Ocala. Florida.
Before arriving at Gulfstream Race Track Hakamiah raced at Keeneland. Although his racing career has been cut short Hakamiah has a very good future ahead of him and one day will find his own family but until then we are all his family.
After his surgery his recovery will be at least 3 months so anyone who would like to visit this adorable boy is welcome to come out. He is quite an amazing young colt. Although he is restricted to stall rest only he is very happy to be in the upper barn and watch all the people, horses and animals on the farm. He has a very special friend who naps outside his stall, it is Mary the lamb, she will even stand outside his stall gate and share his hay with him. Below is Hakamiah’s pedigree. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/hakamiah

Pure Thoughts Inc. expands OTTB Division for Florida Racetracks
Florida Thoroughbred Rehab and Placement Program Launches with First Two Horses
|
March 27, 2009 - West Palm Beach, FL -- Go Smarty Go by Smarty Jones and Brave & Skillful by Silver Deputy are the first Off-Track Thoroughbreds (OTTB) to arrive at Pure Thoughts Inc.'s expanded Thoroughbred Program. The decision came from observations made over the past 5 years pulling OTTB's from the auctions and killpens. After representatives from Pure Thoughts Inc. Horse & Foal Rescue recently attended the races at Gulfstream Park to watch Nicanor, brother of the legendary Barbaro, run his first race, it became apparent to us that much of the deterioration a race horse goes through is in the hauling to Northern auctions and the elements they are exposed to at these auctions as well as the risk of going to slaughter. Through recent research we have found that there are few groups in Florida dedicated to only OTTB's. The organization decided that there is a definite need for the horses racing at the Florida tracks including Calder, Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs. Pure Thoughts, Inc. Horse and Foal Rescue has spent the last 6 1/2 years pulling horses from slaughter as well as taking in horses from abuse and neglect. Two months ago, the organization, with the help of others in the racing industry decided to expand the Thoroughbred Division for the horses at Florida tracks. Just this past week Miami's WTVJ/NBC, Channel 6 special projects reporter Jeff Burnside, reported a large, growing and illegal horse slaughter industry in South Florida. Horses are being tied to trees and slaughtered.
"They are poachers from Miami's black market who sell the horses' meat, which is a popular delicacy among new arrivals from other countries to the area. The horse meat can go for as much as $20 per pound and based on the number of bloody horse remains and meat-stripped carcasses found on the side of dirt roads and in stables across Miami-Dade, harvesting horses for meat is a lucrative business," reported Burnside.
There are also kill buyers here picking up horses throughout the state from racetracks and auctions and sending them to larger slaughter houses in Mexico and Canada. Brave & Skillful was saved from going to auction by a group of people dedicated to the welfare of the racehorses. He arrived at Pure Thoughts, Inc. three weeks ago. Go Smarty Go was seriously injured in his last race at Belmont Park and his owners opted for surgery. Go Smarty Go was placed in rehab and after a successful recovery his owners have decided to retire him. He will finish out his rehabilitation at Pure Thoughts, Inc., after which he will be retrained as a riding horse and one day be placed in his forever home. All horses are placed with a strict adoption contract including a no breeding, no racing clause.

Pure Thoughts Inc. is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of horses, yearlings and foals that were intended to go to slaughter for human consumption. These horses would have been brutally tortured and slaughtered. Pure Thoughts Inc. Horse & Foal Rescue also rescues horses from starvation, abuse and neglect, any horse in need. To date, over 1350 innocent equines have been saved and we will continue to fight for the horses. Please help us and others save these beautiful animals and please remember in your thoughts the ones we were unable to reach.
