Fitch "Forever Young" June 16. 2006 - March 5, 2007
Fitch fought his potential abductors and by doing so he saved the life of his brother Abercrombie. Unfortunately Fitch could not recover from the injuries he received from these cruel and heartless people and he succumbed.
Fitch lost his battle for life on March 5, 2007 at 11:56pm at the University of Georgia. Rest in Peace Dear Brave Fitch... For you we will continue to fight!!!

Ebony is HomeWell Ebony seems glad to be home. She sure does love Brad. He doctors her everyday and Cindy has now learned to also so she has been helping with Ebony. EBony still loves her cookies! The tracheostomy did not seem to ruin her tastebuds. Cookies and Kids... Ebony's two favorite things in life.

EBONYEbony is a black percheron mare that was rescued in the Home for the Holidays rescue mission. When Ebony arrived we noticed she was breathing very heavily. It was discovered that her left arytenoid does not move at all and her right onwe is twice as thick as the left and moves only slightly. This is most likely caused by over working her. It is also suspected that she is a left sided hemiplegic with chondrosis and and pareisis of the right side as well.
Although surgery is an option it is feared that due to her size there is a possibilty she would not survive the general anethesia. We have received the recommendation from many doctors and surgeons. Another option for Ebony is a tracheostomy.
We have been weighing the pros and cons of both options. The trach seems to us to be the safest for Ebony, the downside of the trach is the daily maintenance and insuring that this is done.
This decision has been weighing very heavily on our minds and was not an easy one. Her life is in our hands. After much thought we have come to a decision. We will proceed with the tracheostomy. The cost of the procedures were not a deciding factor since both procedures are parallel in costs. The issue with Ebony is the aftercare and making sure she will receive the necessary care throughout her life. It is difficult for us to have sanctuary horses as we are limited on space here. We are opening a sancturay in Live Oak but Ebony is not eligible for that because she will need to be in a stall and get excessive one on one treatement and care. We have decided that Ebony will be a sanctuary horse here. If the summers are too hard on her she will go to the Pure Thoughts facility in northern New York during the summer months with Donna Skinner. We have been told that the winters will be too hard on her up there. So, our dear Ebony may end up a Snowbird so to say. Since we have our own truck and trailer now this is very doable.
I would like to say a special THANK YOU to Victoria McCullough, NAVS and the many people who are committed to helping Ebony. Ebony will need many angels, sponsors and support so she will have her own fundraising area dedicated to helping her. I would also like to thank everyone who has helped guide us in this decision. I know some would say with these funds we could have saved many horses but the fact is.. we saved her and made a committment to her. We all saved her life and her life is in our hands....it is up to us to give her what every horse deserves... a peaceful and painless life full of love and happiness.

Ebony Hospital
Hey Everyone
Ebony is doing just fine and getting great care. It is obvious she loves her care givers too. I cannot tell you what it did to Brad and I to see her like this.. I thought I would be in tears but I was full of joy!!! She is breathing just fine and we noticed a HUGE difference in Ebony.. so calmer, calmer than ever before. I can only equate it to the surgery. I woudl imagine someone with Asthma that has an attack get very panicky and nervous. Herd to breathe and cath your breth, that has to be a frightening situation. She was so calm that I asked if they had her sedated and they said NO.
We feel so good about her being there now. Brought her a box of her favorite Wildflower Treats...thank you Michelle Tolley!! Brad and I are very nervous. I recognize the feeling OH SO WELL.. For those of you that have had children, remember that feeling when you brought your baby first home and you were so nervous.. I remember thinking with Camille. HOLY MACKEREL what am I going to do now.. I of course called my mother to come over. I was so afraid that I would break her. She didn't come with any instructions LOL. That is how we feel but we know we will be okay and so will Ebony. The difference in Ebony is 1000% percent.. Thank you to everyone who is contnuing to help and thinking of Ebony. Keep the prayers coming.
