The Triumph Project "Horses Are Our History"

|
|
Is it really a change? Anyone who comes to this website has humanity in their hearts. Our country has put into place laws to protect the innocent animals that cannot speak for themselves. Tears well up in our eyes when we see the commercials of the cats and dogs in cages at our local pounds and shelters. So many of us have trouble watching some of the wildlife programs where we witness survival of the fittest and watch a lion tear apart a unknowing Zebra or Wildebeest. Most of us will stop to pick up a stray dog or if we see a cat with a litter of kittens... so when we hear that someone has jumped on board to help save the horses from slaughter... is it really a change? No, it is not a change.... it is someone who has just found out that this cruel and inhumane torture is going on. In the 8 month that Victoria McCullough has been involved in horse slaughter and horse welfare she has not changed Compassion and love for the horses has always been in her heart. She just did not know it was happening. It is not the person that changes it is their actions. In October Victoria read about Pure Thoughts and visited the facility. In November she facilitated the rescue horses to be apart of the opening ceremonies for the National Horse Show where they received a standing ovation. She contributed to the Home for the Holidays save, where 82 horses were saved from Slaughter. When the horses started to arrive she saw how beautiful these horses were, they were not old, lame, skinny and unhealthy, yes there were a few that were in desperate need of rehab but that is not the majority. It was also in November where she learned of Triumph, a beautiful Belgian gelding, who life had been too hard on him, he had given his heart, soul and his last physical energy to his owners, they rewarded him by sending him to slaughter. Pure Thoughts purchased him at the Sugarcreek kill auction. His journey was over but he would not die in pain or alone. He was humanely laid to rest... surrounded in love. He is the namesake for The Triumph Project, which was founded by the Davis McCullough Foundation, and everyday Victoria carries his mane with her... in her fight for the horses. On May 23rd, 2008 , with the combined efforts of The Triumph Project and Pure Thoughts Inc. Horse & Foal Rescue all the horses at Sugarcreek Kill Auction were saved. In June, Victoria introduced Horse Slaughter and the inhumanity of it at the Global Champions Tours with a moving presentation. Since then it has been not only accepted but also embraced by this group of top show riders and horse enthusiasts. You may view it on their website at www.globalchampionstour.com. In a matter of months, McCullough has made this a worldwide issue and the overwhelming response confirms that this act is a worldwide concern, which will not be tolerated. Do we, as Americans want to show the world this is allowed and accepted by us? The majority if horsemeat for human consumption is coming from the United States…. The American Horse. On July 31st Victoria attended the Judicial Hearing for the new bill introduced by Representative John Conyers Jr., known as H.R. 6598, the Conyers - Burton Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act of 2008 (the bill which now replaces the AHSPA - HR 503 & S. 311.) The bill gained 10 new co-sponsors that day. So in the end..... does a person really change or is it just their actions that make a change. Please consider taking action to help make a change! |
